Well, that just sucked!

I left the UGA/Tennessee game yesterday with that same heart-wrenching feeling I have every year after we play Florida. In my opinion, we have a better team than Tennessee. We could have and should have won that game. But we made a lot of very costly mistakes. We had penalties on many critical plays including a holding penalty on a punt return to the 1 yard line by McLendon. It was very questionable, as were a lot of the calls yesterday, but I don't doubt there was a little holding. It bugs me that the officials weren't making that call consistently. We watched as play after play, Tennessee's lineman held David Pollack. And Thomas Davis missed a big defensive stop late in the game because a defender grabbed him from behind. But that's beside the point, we can't do anything about the officiating.

My biggest question about the game was why didn't Richt keep DJ Shockley in the game. Tennessee? Tennessee had a really good defense scheme for David Greene. They kept 7 men in the box and pressured him on every pass, and this forced Greene to make short slant passes that didn't get the Bulldogs many positive yards. When Shockley came in, it threw the Tennesee defense. They couldn't blitz the same way, they had to play looser in the secondary, and they looked off. I bet Greene would have been happy to sit on the sidelines if we could have gotten a win with Shockley as the quarterback.

My dad made a very insightful observation. Our team rises and falls with David Greene. If he is having an off day, we are going to struggle on offensive. If he's on, we can dominate a good defense just like we did against LSU.

I don't want to talk about this anymore. Have a nice day.
