Del.icio.us - the evolution of data on the Internet
I love the idea of a categorization system based on the way people really think. Del.icio.us uses the very novel concept of allowing users to categorize their bookmarks. Any single bookmark can have multiple tags associated with it. Any other user of del.icio.us can then find that bookmark if they look for your tag. So http://del.icio.us/tag/web will return all bookmarks that people have tagged with "web." You can also do tag combinations http://del.icio.us/tag/web+css to return all bookmarks that have both "web" and "css" tags. Over time as more and more user categorize bookmarks, patterns emerge based on how the user base thinks. If you look at http://del.icio.us/tag, you will see a visual diagram of the most common tags... and you can use that to extrapolate some information about the current users (1. they are mostly tech nerds like me, 2. they are interested in design elements...)
Here's an interesting article about the principle of social tagging, referred to as "folksonomies" - A del.icio.us study
Here is my bookmark page: del.icio.us/dnorton
